It’s routine for administrative professional assistants to perform “above-and-beyond” tasks for their bosses and companies. They screen calls and emails, manage calendars and schedules, organize meetings, handle travel arrangements, track expenses, resolve administrative issues, run errands, maintain organization, put out small and large fires, and the list goes on. Executives would be lost without them.

This year’s Administrative Professional’s Day falls on April 25th with the whole week used to observe the event. Office professionals say they’re more likely to stay where they feel appreciated, so it’s time to show your employees how much you value them. If you haven’t already, do something to recognize the hard work your office personnel are performing each day.

One of our greatest assets –  hands down!

According to a study performed by Staples, the administrative assistant is the most trusted employee in the workplace. Employees tend to value administrative professionals – sometimes over management and HR specialists – due to their extensive knowledge of the day-to-day functions of the office. They’re often known to be your best team player and boost office morale. The support they provide is invaluable to everyone in the office.

How can we show our appreciation?

The most desired bonus in any office setting is, of course, going to be monetary compensation. However, you could also consider some PTO as a form of gratitude. Even a paid half-day or a long lunch would be appreciated as a nice break to their daily routine.

If your admin professional assistant is so valuable that you can’t go a day without them, a token of appreciation can be meaningful. Flowers, gift cards to a healthy lunch spot or movie theater, or maybe some long overdue recognition will show you value their hard work.

High morale requires some appreciation

The key to maintaining high morale and a well-organized team is committing to recognize and appreciate the employees you presently have for jobs well done. They’re the people who will train in your new hires, and put out the small and large fires you face each day. They hold the details to your organization and will be loyal and committed to your mission especially if they feel valued.

It should be a goal to regularly thank your employees for all that they do for your company, but the week of April 25th is set aside to acknowledge the efforts of your administrative professional employees. Help your employees feel empowered in their workplace by showing them how much they mean to your organization, today and every day that follows.
